Elements of Argument: Chapters 3-5

Filed under: Uncategorized —— mreye @ 8:58 pm

Thanks to everyone for doing such a good job mapping the text for chapters 1 and 2 of Elements of Argument. Here’s what you’re responsible for next week’s class…

1. Read the chapter I assigned you at the end of tonight’s class. Please take notes on the chapter as you will become part of an “expert” group that will teach others about that chapter.

2. Complete one of the end of chapter activities for your assigned chapter. Please put your thoughts for this activity in your Daybook.

3. Post a comment or question about the activity or anything…related to the chapter you read.

Please remember to bring the 5 colored index cards we worked on at the end of tonight’s class to next week’s class…you’ll need to refer to them during the activity that is planned from the Writing Resource Center.

Again…thanks for your efforts and have a great week!!!

Oh…one more thing…posting to the blog is one way that we participate with each other in between our class meetings. Participation is crucial to the community we’re trying to cultivate…according to my records…6 of you did not post to last week’s activity…that makes me :-(

50 points for participation starts to dwindle quickly if you’re picking and choosing when to be a part of the community…

For those of you that regularly contribute…THANK YOU FOR SEEING THE VALUE IN WHAT IT IS WE’RE DOING!!! That makes me :-)

Remember to post an entry right here that includes a comment, question or concern you have related to the activities you chose.

Below you’ll find the document for Assignment #6 as well as the document that shows where we’re going in the next 4 class meetings.

Also, I need for you to read pp. 106 and 107 in Being a Writer. You certainly did a lot of writing this evening and I greatly appreciate everyone’s effort and honesty related to both the Composing Guidelines activity and the Open-Ended Writing Process. As you look back on what you did tonight, I’m sure you’ll find that the experience was time well spent..especially when you start to mine/raid your thoughts for Assignment 4.
As I mentioned before the end of class…you have two things to work on this week…Assignment 4 which you can upload right here and this week’s blog assignment…comment on 3 of the 7 bulleted items found in Being a Writer…pp. 55-56 titled…Process Questions about Private Writing. Do NOT refer to any of your private writing specifically unless you want to. Make an effort to read the thoughts your classmates are contributing as well…that’s how we build community. Have fun exploring your private writing…I look forward to reading and responding to your ideas!!
